Sydney Larrikin Hash House Harriers Run 2412 Report – 8th October, 2024

Weather – Cold and not quite Raining!

Turnout Remarkable!

At a glance, the pack for the joint run set for us by the Not So Quick Silvers easily swelled beyond 50 before Codpiece, Harriettes GM summoned us all to attention. Her welcome was brief but spirited as she introduced the co-hares, Hill of Grace and XXXX, who promised options to suit everyone—a short walk, a longer walk, or a full 7km run. Naturally when asked which trail I intended following, I opted for the full run, although I wasn’t entirely sure why it mattered to the hares which trail any of us chose to complete.

Once the pack was off, we made our way down the old tram route toward Balmoral Beach. The path was familiar but filled with that usual dash of unpredictability. After a customary lap around the Sports Oval, we faced the climb back up the steps to Middle Head Road. The run continued through the old Chowder Bay lookout , before the fading daylight forced a change in plans. Shortsheeter and I, having been crisscrossing on the trail, decided to abandon the twists and turns for a more direct route. We scurried along the major roads, finally making our way back to the new Grand Stand at Alan Border Oval—a fantastic spot for the bucket. Well-lit and sheltered, it was perfect for the bucket.

There was plenty of chatter as we gathered around the well-stocked bucket, sharing stories and catching up. Balloon introduced two other hash friends, PAL and Happy Ending, PAL another Scottsman and Happy Ending who hashes somewhere in the Middle East, they had all walked together,

In his run report Bejesus, who confessed to working in Mosman for over two decades, delivered his report with humor, adding that he had even discovered some new territory on the trail. His glowing review and the excellent turnout earned the run a solid score of 9.7. The only other misdemeanor earning a drink was a charge against Me Knob, apparently he went to the wrong Oval, seems no one told him there was more than one.

The night didn’t end there, of course. We made our way to The Duck, a beloved local pub, where the fun and drinks flowed into the night. It was, without a doubt, a great evening, filled with good company and memorable moments. Big thanks to the Not So Quick Silvers for making it happen!
